Dr Sian James and myself had the honour of being asked to do a short presentation on PEN-Y-DINAS HILLFORT, THE GREAT ORME, LLANDUDNO, NORTH WALES project which we carried out a few months back. The 3d hologram was revealed for the first time at alia hosted by HPC Wales at Bangor University. The 3D model was generated by the computer science department in preparation for the recording of the Hologram which was recoded by View Holographics
The project was part funded by CEW Network
The aerial data capture, ground survey was carried out by Seahawk AP

Why is the project so unique?

  • To our knowledge this is the first colour hologram recorded of an archaeological site
  • It is the first colour hologram to be made from images collected by an aerial survey
  • It is the first use of a UAV / drone camera system to capture the images.
  • It has proved that the concept of making holograms in this way is sound.
  • It offers the possibility of 3D photo-realistic images of the natural World.
